There was just enough light to show the way. The so called
way were tunnels. The size of the tunnel was just enough for two robots to move
side by side. There was no need for ventilation. The robots do not need to
breathe.
The robots looked alike. Round head, rectangular boxy body,
tubular extremities. Some days it looked like they float as they move. Some
days they were on wheels.
The network of tunnels was like webs that connected the
underground world. The whole area between Stratosphere and Mandalay Bay was
covered by the network. For a human mind, it was unthinkable. How could they
navigate inside the network? The were no street signs. There were no codes like
the runways of the airport. But it made sense to them. If you were to ask them,
they would show you the world of ants. The ants survived for hundreds of years
in networks like that.
When Amy first saw it, her human mind had the same fear. It
was too claustrophobic. It was not until she got to CCC that she felt a little
better. Central Control Center was located just beneath the Venetian. It was
the hub. It was like the plaza of a city in the human world. It was also the
main power source for all robots. Along the walls were power outlets for them
to power up. Since they had better batteries, one charge lasted one month.
