AKG49 turned off the projection screen. For the moment, he
had enough of old memories. From the left hip, he pulled out a plug and
attached it to the socket in the wall. The light from the power source was
still blinking. There was a number next to the blinking light.
29.
Twenty-nine days to go. AKG49 pressed another button on his
chest. Rest mode. His robotic body shut down into rest and energy conserving
mode. There was one thing great about a robotic body. There was no more need to
eat, drink, urinate and defecate. The only problem was, he needed a power
source.
His mind went back to the day of conversion. Just like of
the other humans who were exposed to radiation, his flesh was decaying.
Initially it was slow. However, exposure to sun hastened the process. He did
not know that.
He was looking for water to drink inside New York New York
casino when he saw a friend. Dr. Chang was carrying a bottled water. He was
hiding it. He took a quick sip and hide the bottle into his big long jacket. He
looked older. He was a good friend of Adrian’s grandfather.
“Adrian!” He called out.
Adrian’s eyes brighten. It was good to see a friend when you
were hungry and thirsty. Dr. Chang made a hand gesture for Adrian to come
closer. He then led Adrian into the men’s room next to the escalator. They went
to the last stall inside the men’s room. Dr. Chan closed the door. He pulled
out one of the tiles from the wall and pressed a button. The side wall opened.
They quickly went in.
