AKG49’s timer went off. His body changed from resting mode
to active. He could see the east side of the capsule brightened. He had a dream
last night. Or maybe we should say, he remembered his dream.
Dr. Chang gave him a pendant. It had a round silver with a piece
of jade in the middle.
“Keep this my friend. When you see my wife and daughter,
they will know who you are.”
“Where will I find them?” AKG49 asked.
“You don’t have to. You will meet.”
“Tell me more!”
“That is enough for now.” Dr. Chang said.
AKG49 got up. The blinking light at the power source showed
28.
Twenty-eight days. Or in robot world, twenty-eight cycles of
twenty-four hours. Or in the new world, it did not matter. There was no concept
of time. There would still be sunrise and sundown, but time that was invented
by the human world ceased to exit.
His capsule and battery was designed by Dr. Chang. AKG49
still needed to meet that limitation of time and battery life. AKG49 headed out
again to the strip. He knew that aside from finding another power source, he
needed to find the wife and daughter of Dr. Chang.
